Job Summary

The Technical Officer is responsible for supporting the efficient and safe operation of the company’s vessels. This role involves overseeing maintenance, repairs, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations to guarantee the vessels’ seaworthiness and optimal performance.

About the Role

Oversee and coordinate maintenance and repair activities for the vessel’s technical systems, including propulsion, power generation, navigation, and safety equipment.

  • Monitor the condition of vessels through regular inspections, audits, and surveys.

  • Obtain and evaluate repair quotations, source repair companies, and ensure repairs are completed to the highest standards.

  • Ensure vessels comply with all applicable rules and standards set by classification societies, flag states, and port authorities.

  • Stay updated on international and local regulations related to maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.

  • Attend vessels at ports of call and periodically sail with them to ascertain technical conditions and performance.

  • Develop troubleshooting methodologies and procedures to solve technical problems aboard vessels.

  • Control and monitor the quality of lube-oil and bunker onboard, as well as the vessels’ consumption rates.

  • Monitor the efficient and timely supply of all spares required for the proper maintenance and safe operation of the vessels.

  • Ensure that requisitions are made timely to prevent shortages and manage the level of ship spares in store.

  • Plan and execute dry-docking and other major maintenance projects.

  • Coordinate with shipyards, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and upgrades.

  • Maintain good working relationships with crew that impact on operational efficiency, and safe working practices.

Qualification and Experience

  • Certificate of Competency (Officer in Charge of Engineering Watch)

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role, preferably with seagoing experience as a Second or Third Engineer.

Functional Skills Requirement

  • Familiar with Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and Safety Management Systems (SMS).

  • Competent and experienced in developing, documenting, and reporting.

  • Has in-depth understanding of international standards and procedures and makes appropriate decisions based on this knowledge.

  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving.
