Marine Superintendent (Operations)

Job Summary

The Marine Superintendent oversees the effective operation of the vessel. The Marine Superintendent will ensure compliance with the operations manual, the SMS and other regulations. The Marine Superintendent will manage crew activities, coordinating operations whilst handling emergency situations.

About the Role

  • Oversee marine operations and ensure compliance with company policies and international regulations.

  • Develop and implement the budget, strategic management and technical operations of company’s entire fleet.

  • Plan, coordinate and manage the vessels maintenance and general technical availability

  • Ensure cost effective maintenance of assigned vessels; operations maintenance/docking

  • Identify lapses and improve quality of services through internal and external audits

  • Plan and organize surveys- class surveys, flag state surveys and charterers inspections

  • Conduct vessel Technical Inspection, ensure all non-conformities are closed-out

  • Review Vessel defects/damages and adopt cost effective feasible solutions

  • Manage planned maintenance system, vessel daily technical support and unplanned maintenance

  • Review/approve marine-related requisitions and invoices.

  • Direct the daily operations and maintenance of the entire fleet.

  • Coordinate and manage vessel movements, including scheduling and logistics.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of vessels to ensure safety and operational standards are met.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to vessel crews and shore-based staff.

  • Develop and implement operational procedures and best practices.

  • Liaise with clients, port authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

  • Monitor Marine crew complement for accuracy/shortages and report on operational performance .

  • Oversee the maintenance of vessel PMS system including unscheduled maintenance, breakdowns or failures.

  • Provide guidance and Monitor work orders through to completion

  • Monitor Flag/Class survey status, including internal inspection/verification status.

  • Directing and supporting Captains/Chief Engineers regarding the Marine Management processes.

  • Verify the implementation of the Marine Safety Management system aboard assigned vessels.

  • Supervise all technical procurement to ensure budgetary and quality compliance are maintained.

  • Improve safety records and prevent lost time accidents according to company SMS policy on safety tech

  • Prepare budgets, costs and schedules for vessel maintenance and repair.

Qualification and Experience

  • Certificate of Competency (Master) Class 1

  • A graduate in Nautical science, Transport and Logistics or relevant field of study or equivalent combination of experience and education in the oil and gas, offshore or marine

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role, preferably with seagoing experience as a  Captain or Chief Officer.

  • Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations and standards.

Functional Skills Requirement

  • Highly motivated, self-starting individual with ability to work unsupervised in a high activity environment and achieve results through strong leadership and motivation.

  • Competent and experienced in developing, documenting, and reporting.

  • Proficiency in using marine operations software and tools

  • Understanding of Ship Management, Marine Operations, Vessel Charter, Vessel and Company Inspections, CSO, QHSE, Dry Dock Operations, SMS review, Project Management, Crew Management.

  • Understanding of experience in different contracts and knowledge of international law of contracts, indemnity, insurance and charter party is an added advantage

  • Extensive understanding of quality assurance, health and safety, environmental management and security management for vessels.

  • An experienced people manager with the ability to lead, coach and mentor teams.

  • Must have analytical experience, be accurate with statistics and written reports, well organized and exercise sound judgment in decision making.

  • Has in-depth understanding of international standards and procedures and makes appropriate decisions based on this knowledge.

  • Has experience in accident and incident investigation

  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving.
