Job Summary
The Marine Operations Officer is responsible for supporting the Marine Superintendent in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the company’s fleet. This role involves overseeing vessel maintenance, crew management, and regulatory compliance to ensure optimal performance and safety standards.
About the Role
Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure vessels are in optimal condition.
Coordinate with shipyards and contractors for dry-docking and major repairs.
Ensure vessels comply with international and local maritime regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of maritime laws and regulations, and ensure vessels meet all certification requirements.
Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of crew members.
Ensure all safety equipment is maintained and operational.
Provide technical and operational support to the Marine Superintendent and vessel crews.
Prepare reports on vessel performance, maintenance activities, and compliance status.
Attend vessels at ports of call and periodically sail with them to ascertain technical conditions and performance.
Develop troubleshooting methodologies and procedures to solve operational problems aboard vessels.
Monitor the efficient and timely supply of all spares required for the proper maintenance and safe operation of the vessels.
Ensure that requisitions are made timely to prevent shortages and manage the level of ship spares in store.
Plan and execute dry-docking and other major maintenance projects.
Qualification and Experience
Certificate Of Competency (Officer in Charge of Navigational Watch)
Bachelor’s degree in nautical science, Transport and Logistics, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role, preferably with seagoing experience as a Chief or Third Officer.
Functional Skills Requirement
Understanding of maritime regulations, including ISM Code, ISPS Code, and MARPOL.
Familiarity with Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Ability to develop and implement effective troubleshooting procedures
Competent and experienced in developing, documenting, and reporting.
Understands Industry tools, including OVID, OVIMSA, OCIMF etc.
Understands international standards and procedures and makes appropriate decisions based on this knowledge.
Pragmatic approach to problem solving.
